Summer Reading List

I was reading Inc Magazine the other day and they were celebrating their 30th anniversary. One of their anniversary lists was called The Business Owner's Bookshelf: 30 Books You Should Read and Put to Use.

Inc is geared toward entrepreneurs and small business owners and a lot of golf instructors may not think of themselves as business owners, but you are! You have to be responsible for creating products that your students and potential students want. You must promote those products and build a strong teaching brand that golfers look to as a respected authority. You have to do your R&D learning about new training aids, technologies and methods. And, you have to have a business plan and a strategy for growing your business over the short and long terms.

The books on this list cover all sorts of ground in all of these business disiplines and most are written in a very memorable, anecdotal style that will offer up ideas for managing your business in smarter, more effective ways. Everybody has a summer reading list, here's yours. Make it a goal to read at least a couple of these in 2009.

In particular for golf academy owners, read #6 The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It and #26 Small Giants: Companies that Choose to Be Great Instead of Big.
